Aviation kerosene is the fuel used in aircraft powered by turbines, whether pure jet, turboprop or turbofan. It is produced by fractioning the oil, by distillation at atmospheric pressure, followed by treatment, which gives the product the proper quality for optimal performance. The Brazilian specification of QAV-1 is determined by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) and is compatible with the Aviation Fuel Quality Requirements for Jointly Operated Systems (AFQRJOS) for JET A-1. JET A-1 has the following requirements: to remain liquid and homogeneous up to the combustion zone of the aircraft, to have the highest possible calorific value, to exhibit chemical and physical resistance to variations in temperature and pressure and to have good lubricating characteristics. These requirements are covered by specification items.
